My new gym buddy

A warning would have been nice.  When I agreed to train with a blog member, I should have asked more questions first.  In particularly I blame Kelly.  She created this beast of a woman, she should have given a sista a heads up.

On Sunday, I trained with the beautiful Heather (a.k.a. Finding New Focus).  Heather has been a huge contributor to many of my stories and has offered several up to us as well.  It was wonderful to have final met her in person.  It was funny how well we already knew each other from simply sharing on the blog.

Heather wanted to run with one of my workouts.  I ASSUMED that it would be a nice challenge for her.  I was excited to take her through my Back and Biceps workout and thought that if nothing else, she would walk away with something useful to work into her own plan.  I am thinking that it was just as well the other way around.

So it began, after a quick exchange of pleasantries, we were on the move.   I knew that she was working on a 21 day challenge so I thought we should start there.  The least I could do was to let her get that out of the way before we hit it hard on the weights.  HA!  This girl warms up with one hundred sit-ups and one hundred push-ups.  Yea, thank goodness my plan was biceps and back.  Otherwise I would be doing this blog from the mobile app in the therapy pool.  Every single workout she killed.  I had no idea that she was that physically strong.  Mentally, she was just as strong.  I could see in her eyes the determination to give it her all.  Not a wince, flinch or curse.  Well, I cursed.  She managed to keep her composure.  What a lady! After training with Xavy, I learned that a set wasn’t hard enough unless you manage to grunt out the “F” word somewhere within it.   I would have to say that she stuck with me, (or I stuck with her), nearly pound for pound.  We completed every single workout with zero modifications.  I was so proud of her but at the same time so humbled.   Between sets, I learned more about her journey and her story astounded me.   I appreciated her saying so but I was really the one who was honored.  I think it helped me more then it helped her.
Afterwards, we had lunch (on plan) and gossiped.  Before we knew it, 4 hours had gone by.  It was really a wonderful time.  I made a new friend and a great new workout buddy yesterday.  I see lots more inspiration and motivation from each other in our future.  That’s what this is all about right?  Support.   I would have to say that the first “Gym Buddy” experience was a success.

Thanks Heather!

  1. It was a great time and I can't wait to do it again. Funny I never thought of myself as very strong until I was almost able to keep up with you. You truly are an inspiration. Don't let her fool you she is a beast as well! Next time I will have perfected my grunt!

Today was a great day for me to read this no need to stop and drown my woes in coffee or tasti D lite. Time to head to the gym and practice my.grunting.
